When people ask, “How are you today?”
Do I tell it straight or brush it away?
Do I say, “I’m fine!” with a wink and cheer,
Or hint at the truth – be real, sincere?
Some days I’m up, some days I’m low,
Mostly I’m stuck, just moving slow.
I want to share, but where to start,
When honesty feels so heavy at heart?
“How are you feeling? Are you alright?”
They ask with concern, warm and polite.
I hold back the weight, keep it light and clear,
Not wanting to cloud the air with what’s here.
But thanks for asking, I know you care –
Let’s talk about something lighter to share!
