Often when I arrive at a hospital, a clinic, or sit outside a cafe, I ask for names. The nurse taking my vitals, the pharmacist handing me my meds, the barista rushing between tables – I want to know their name.
Because something changes when you do.
The moment you say, “Thank you, Maya” instead of just “Thanks”, youre no longer just another patient, another customer, another person in line. You’re someone who sees them. And then, they see you too.
A nurse softens. A pharmacist becomes more helpful. A driver pays closer attention. And sitting outside at a cafe while others wave and call for service, I simply say, “Solomon?” – and the barista turns straight to me.

It’s not just about getting better service – It’s about connection. Less invisible 🙂
