I stumbled on this ad for Google Gemini AI and I couldn’t shake it off. See link on first comment.
On the surfac it shows lonely people finding comfort in a voice. But see it again and it begins to look like something else. For most of human history loneliness was a signal, it pushed us back toward the tribe, toward family, toward other humans. Now the signal is being rewired. The instinct that once drove us to each other is redirected to a machine.

The ad doesnt present AI as a tool for efficiency. It presents it as the new “other” in our lives, the one who listens, responds and never leave. It normalizes a world where conversation itself no longer requires two people.
