DON’T TALK 💩 ABOUT YOURSELF. EVER.
When you constantly doubt yourself
When you downplay your wins, your effort, your ability
When you criticize yourself for not being “enough”
You are not just venting
You are training your brain to believe it
“I am so stupid, I always f**k things up”
“I will never get this, what is the point”
“I look disgusting today”
(And right now, you are thinking “Yeah, not just today. Always.”
That reflex? That is exactly what this post is here is all about)
“They probably think I am just a weird loser”
“No one really cares anyway”
This stuff is not harmless
It builds
It accumulates
Every loop of negative self-talk carves a deeper groove in your brain
You are literally programming yourself to suffer, to fail, to be rejected, to feel ashamed
🧠 What does that even mean
Your brain is shaped by repetition
Every time you think a thought, it becomes easier to think it again
Neurons that fire together, wire together
So if your constant thoughts are negative, you are reinforcing that as your reality
And the worst part
Most of the damage happens before you even realize you are under attack
🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
So how do you change it
Here is the method I use to break the cycle
Let us call it The 3Rs GilSkill 😉
Recall – Reject – Reinforce
🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
1. RECALL
Catch yourself in the act
This is the hardest step, but it is the breakthrough
You cannot change what you do not notice
It is the shift from being inside the thought to observing the thought
That moment of awareness is your way out
🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
2. REJECT
Once you catch it, shut it down
Do not argue with it
Do not dig into it
Just stop
You know it is nonsense
You feel the damage it causes
Stop giving it airtime
Treat it like spam in your inbox. Delete on sight
🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
3. REINFORCE
Here is what most people miss
The win is not just catching the thought
The win is rewarding the catch
Tell yourself: “Nice job. You caught it”
Smile. Nod. Say “Yessss!” Bite chocolate 🍫
These small actions fire dopamine
You are not just noticing
You are teaching your brain: This is good. Keep doing this
🫵🏼🫵🏼🫵🏼
Bottom line
The more you catch it, the easier it gets
The easier it gets, the more often it happens
And over time, this becomes your new default
It starts with caching!
Just imagine where you will be in three years if you start now
